Ah, Memorial Day! Right around the corner on Monday, May 29th, it's time to start planning the celebration. On Memorial Day, we remember veterans whose lives were taken while honorably serving our country. Memorial Day also kicks off summer, so open up your pools, throw some BBQ on the grill, and enjoy. You won't have to worry about the details, because Your Gathering Nook has put them right here for you!

DIY Painted Lawn Stars
What you'll need:
- Cardboard
- Box Cutter
- Blue, red, and white spray paint *that won't harm your lawn!
Start by using the box cutter to cut out various size star stencils into the cardboard. Be sure to leave some additional cardboard around each stencil so that the excess spray paint doesn't coat your lawn. Then, place the cardboard cut outs on your lawn and use the spray paint to color inside of the stencil. Repeat until satisfied with the result. That's it!
Leftover spray paint? Make a life-size Twister game for the kids (and adults!) to enjoy.

These sand resistant towels (on sale now!) are perfect to spread around your yard for guests to lounge on, and they are perfect for those summer beach trips that are right around the corner!
As the host or hostess, it's always fun to think outside of the box. This towel could also be used as the backdrop to a themed tablescape! Use it as a tablecloth to create a soft, unique look.

With inflation driving up the cost of most everything right now, we certainly need to be more mindful of limiting one-time use purchases.
Have you ever considered using a festive wreath to frame your centerpiece? You can use this patriotic wreath to enhance your tablescape and then hang it on your door through the 4th of July!
Although the hope is that it'll be warm enough to enjoy the pool on Memorial Day, sometimes that just isn't the case.

Instead, easily fill up some patriotic water balloons! I recommend having plenty for the kids and for the "big kids." Believe me, the adults will have more fun with them than the young kids will. Be sure to place them gently into water-filled buckets or kiddie pools spread out over the yard so that they won't pop!
For planning purposes, the average child will throw 10 water balloons in one-minute. That's 100 balloons per minute for a water balloon fight with just 10 child participants!

Everyone loves a photo-op! Make this easy DIY tablecloth garland to use as a backdrop at your Memorial Day cookout.
What you'll need for an ~4ft wide backdrop:
- 6 plastic tablecloths (2 red, 2 white, 2 blue)
- scissors
- heavy-duty string or twine, cut to desired width of garland
- command hooks to hang

How to make it:
Unfold the tablecloth twice, then begin cutting 1-2" strips lengthwise on the folded, smooth-edged side. Continue with each tablecloth until you have cut them all into strips.
Hang string or twine in preparation for tying tablecloth strips. It'll make it much easier!
Place the string over a strip of lengthwise tablecloth, creating a loop.
Pull the bottom of the of the strip through the loop, creating a knot. Be sure to pull it tightly around the string.
Continue this process until your desired width is achieved, circulating through each color.
Hang the garland on Command Hooks due to the completed weight.
The ends will look choppy, which may be your desired look, but if you want to add more layers or more consistency, simply cut each strip to your desired length.
Enjoy!
