Springtime in Your Gathering Nook

"The Earth laughs in flowers." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Springtime welcomes the ever-relatable feeling that all of a sudden, you are okay. Our laughter becomes more vibrant, consistent, and lively under the comfort of a spring sun. Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote that "The Earth laughs in flowers". He provides such a great visual of Mother Earth, giggling as she spreads colorful tulips, daisies, and daffodils. When human beings acknowledge the power and beauty in laughter, they spread "flowers" in the form of meaningful connection and sheer joy.

In spring, our homes are eager to blossom just as the flowers do. We invite in the fresh, warm air through wide open windows as we weed out our winter stockpiles. We refresh our homes so that they feel lighter, just as we do. It's stripping our beds of fleece sheets and relishing in the comfort of melting into a fresh set of bamboo. It's watching our houseplants grow with no bounds. It's releasing bulky clothing of it's duties to keep us warm and admiring closets lined with flowing dresses. Our homes are preparing for gatherings, for soon their walls will be painted with laughter, joy, and connection.

Here are some ideas to help your home blossom in the spring:

1. Buy a houseplant

Whether you're a horticulturist or considering your first plant, you can find a beautiful one to bring a touch of spring into your home. I get it, how can you even think about a plant when it's hard enough keeping the children or the dog alive?! The truth is, there are some plants that are so easy to care for, the dog could do it. If you're hoping to add some green to Your Gathering Nook, but don't want a lot of upkeep, grab a Spider Plant or a Burgundy Rubber Tree (it produces a gorgeous burgundy color leaf when placed in direct sunlight, but if you find a spot with indirect sunlight, it'll produce dark green leaves). These two houseplants can thrive with very little care. They're perfect for a busy family!

If you're in for more of a challenge, I recommend a Fiddle Leaf Fig. They grow in leaps and bounds when they're happy. The recipe is a south facing window and a weekly warm, humid shower during the growing season (your partner will think you're crazy at first, but then he'll start carrying it into the shower for you when it grows taller than you!) You can choose a tree variety, or a bush variety.

Did you know that plants help to purify the air in your home? By introducing a houseplant to Your Gathering Nook, you and yours can breathe easily.

2. Fill a vase (or three!) with fresh blooms.

Flowers have a way of making us feel happier. They're bright, aromatic, and a sign of new life. In fact, having fresh flowers in your home is proven to impact your overall mood, especially when you see them first thing in the morning. Place a beautiful arrangement on your nightstand and open up your curtains to let the sun shine in! In combination with some additional Vitamin D at the start of your day, you'll be off to a great start. You should also add an arrangement in the kitchen to enjoy while you sip on a refreshing ice-coffee and prepare breakfast for your family. As the kitchen is typically a significant gathering space in the home, your contagious good mood can rub off on those you love, too!

3. Host a spring wreath gathering with your best girlfriends!

Think about it: sipping on yummy mimosas, indulging in scrumptious sweets and delectable finger foods, all while creating your very own unique spring wreath (or arrangement!) and laughing with your best girls. Here's how it works: each woman brings a couple of fresh or faux flower sleeves and their choice of vase or wreath ring, along with a food or drink to share with the group. Clear the table, set all the choices out and start picking and choosing from the varieties to create your very own spring piece! Everyone will have a gorgeous keepsake to showcase in their own Gathering Nook and new memories to cherish.

Springtime is the perfect time to find what reinvigorates you and to start fresh. It symbolizes new beginnings and tremendous potential for growth. Your Gathering Nook is your sacred space and deserves to feel lighter and fresh, just the same as you feel underneath the spring sun. Even the smallest changes can make a tremendous impact. If you're considering hosting a spring gathering with those you share laughter with, or want to freshen up your home but don't know where to start, contact Stephanie at Your Gathering Nook for assistance.

Happy Spring!
